Smith Family Gathers

Published Wednesday, July 15, 1998 in the Gurdon Times

The annual Smith reunion was held at the Gurdon Senior Citizens Center Sunday, June 14, with over 55 family and friends registered. Several came from Texas to visit and to attend the reunion.

William Albert Smith came to Clark County with his parents, Joseph Thomas and Teresa Della Smith, his brother and sister, B. Geter and Margaret Smith, just after 1900. They are listed in the 1910 Clark County census as living in Caddo Township.

Albert Smith met and married Nancy Angeline Presson in February 1911 in Clark County. Their family cards and letters show them to have been a very close knit family and show a love for the Lord and his work. That love continues today through the family.

At the reunion it was pointed out that many of the Smith descendants had become preachers. Many became leaders and missionaries in their churches and communities.

Albert and Nancy Smith had eight children to live to be adults.

Family members of the deceased Susie Ann (Smith) and Luther Jones were Marie and Cecil Kemp, Susie Pearl and Stephen Wilbourn, James B. and Ann Jones and three children Mary Ann and Davie Armstrong and their two children, Sarah and Jonathan; Sharon and David Barnes and their three children, Blake, Eric and Lauren; and James M. and Amanda Jones and their two children, Katarina and Seth; Harold and Betty Jones and daughter, Brenda, and son, Garret; Randy Chambers; Floy and Joe Kusturin and daughter, Barbara; Annie Lee (Smith) Conant and daughter, Velma, and James W. Seale.

Family of the deceased George Tom and Maybelle Smith to attend were T. J. and Ruthell Smith and son, Jerry, and his daughter, Michaela Smith; Alfred and Vivian Smith; Jessie Mae (Smith) Autry; Bennie and Fallie Smith; Mary (Smith) and Elbert Easley; Elbert's sister, Thelma, and her husband, Raymond Howard, and daughter, Debra, and Elbert's brother, Roy Easley, and his family; and Gladys (Smith) and Jimmy Bird and their two children, daughter, Roxy, and her husband, Don Almond, and their son, Randy, and his wife, Teresa Bird, and daughter Sharee.
