Margurite Effie CalhounPublished Wednesday, July 15, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneMargurite Effie Reyenga Calhoun, 73, of Prescott died Tuesday, July 14, 1998. Mrs. Calhoun was born January 8, 1925, in Emmet. She was one of nine children and the oldest daughter of the late Gerald and Mamie Messer Reyenga. She and her husband, Denzil Odell Calhoun, celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in March. Mrs. Calhoun was a member of First United Methodist Church in Prescott and her religion and her church were vital parts of her life. She was a licensed practical nurse and worked for many years with local physicians and at the Cora Donnell Hospital. She was a tireless caregiver, a fantastic cook and a generous, loving friend. But her greatest achievement was the wonderful loving home she and Denzil provided for their children and grandchildren. She was the center of the family issuing Effie-isms, hugs and special desserts as needed. She was always there serving up unconditional love and support. Survivors include her husband, Denzil Odell Calhoun of Prescott; four children, Archie Larry Calhoun and wife, Lisa, of Amity, Sharlett Calhoun Craig and husband, Tom Grunden, of Little Rock, Margaret Calhoun Magee of Texarkana and Brenda Kaye Calhoun Prewitt and husband, Todd, of Prescott; eight grandchildren, Angela Michelle Calhoun, David Odell Calhoun and Sallie Elizabeth Bowman of Amity, Sarah Catherine Craig Crews and her husband, Coleman, of Little Rock, Julia Reid Grunden-/Sawyer and her husband, Robert, of Beaufort, S.C., Catherine Ann Grunden of Washington, D.C., Nicholas Wayne Magee of Texarkana and Cody Lee Todd Prewitt of Prescott; five great grandchildren, Richard Brooks Bramlette, Courtney Gracelynn Crews and Chandler Chase Crews of Little Rock, Hunter Reid Grunden-Sawyer and Emma Catherine Sawyer of Beaufort, S.C.; four brothers, William Theo 'Billy' Reyenga and wife, Fay, of Hope; Gerald Reyenga and wife, Margie, of Brookeland, Texas, Sebron Wesley Reyenga and wife, Wanda, of LaGrange, Ind., and John Franklin 'Johnny' Reyenga and wife, Ruth, of Prescott; two sisters, Edith Grace Reyenga Chism and husband, Ed, of Hope and Ora Pearl 'Shorty' Reyenga Fry of Conejos, Colo.; three sisters-in-law, Elsie Reyenga of Emmet, Edna Reyenga of Pocahantas and Lou Calhoun of Little Rock together with many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 16, at 2 p.m. at the First Methodist Church in Prescott with burial at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
