Her grandchildren had a surprise birthday for her at her son's house, Chester Paden, in Rosston. She was 90 years old and still going strong. Her nieces from Michigan, Mississippi, Florida, Las Vegas, Prescott, Dallas, Texas, and Illinois were there. Grandchildren also came from Illinois. Homecoming was held at New Bethel A.M.E. Lloyd Thompson and wife and son came by to look at the old school where he finished at Oak Grove. He hasn't been here in 30 years. He stopped by my house and we sat out in the yard talking about good old days in Oak Grove and the store we used to run and how they enjoyed coming across the street, getting soda and honey buns. Nellie Jenkins Cross' funeral will be held Saturday. Burial will be at New Salem Cemetery. Janet Smith drove me and Glara to Texarkana Wednesday shopping. We had a very nice trip to the mall and downtown Texarkana. Mimi L. Evans was missed at Sunday's homecoming. She went back with her children, Dorothy Faye Armstead and Claudy Maeberry, to stay a while. They live in Houston, Texas. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
