A&E Road Mart was apparently broken into and robbed last week.

According to reports from the Prescott Police Department, the break-in occurred either Thursday, July 9 or Friday, July 10.

The convenience store, located on Arkansas State Highway 19, was closed for the night at 9 p.m. July 9.

However, when Debra Burke returned at 6 a.m. Friday, July 10, she noticed the front door was unlocked. Going inside, Burke found the cash register missing. It contained about $375 in cash.

She also noticed several packages of cigarettes on the floor. Burke went into another room where collectible items are kept and found several gold necklaces missing, along with two gold pocket watches.

A further search was conducted by Burke, who found the main office had also been broken into and between $500 and $700 taken. In addition, a .357-magnum handgun was stolen as were 35-40 cartons of cigarettes. The burglar(s) also took a jar containing about $50 in donations.

The case was first investigated by PPD Officer Joey Grayson, and has been turned over to Wayne Kisselburg, criminal investigator for the PPD and Nevada County Sheriff's Office.
