Classy MomentsPublished Wednesday, October 6, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesWe were delighted to have Jamelle Lacy back with us after he suffered a broken leg in the first seventh grade game of the year. Students were so helpful to carry his books for him from class to class. It is not easy getting around with a big cast and crutches, but Jamelle handled that pretty well. Jill Plyler and Robin Lemay were installed as the eighth grade representatives in the CMS Student Council Thursday. In the absence of President Lynsey McKenzie, Vice President Jonathan Gonzales conducted the assembly. Krissi Davis and Crystal Card recognized the citizen students of the month for September: fifth grader Dadrien Glenn; sixth grader Jason Wells; seventh grader Kiffany Hill; and eighth grader Jill Plyler. We are busy planning the first Fall Carnival for Cabe Middle School. That will be an evening you certainly do not want to miss. Make plans now for Tuesday, October 12, on the parking lot of Cabe Middle School. You will find entertainment for all ages. Also, a delicious chili supper and cinnamon rolls will be available in the cafeteria. Additional library books are needed at CMS. Play ground equipment is desperately needed. We would like to try to get a pavilion on the campus where we can have tables and benches for the students. The pavilion could also be used from time to time to take a class outside for a period of study. We just want the best we can have for our students and we are willing to work in order to meet the needs for CMS. The seventh and eighth grades social studies go to the library every other Friday. They each have a question that they have to research for the answer, using two references. Carla Jester, the librarian, has named them the "Sleuths" and they feel pretty important, as they are in reality detectives searching for answers. We would like to express our appreciation to Vicky Jennings, Carolyn McDonald and the other workers in our cafeteria. They are doing a great job of providing us with wonderful meals. Thanks to each of you. That junior high football team won another game. Their opponents better be on the lookout when it is time to meet with the Go-Devils. Good job, team. Several of our students responded to the "call for help" for the Quillin family who lost their home to a fire. It really means a lot to know that we have students and faculty members who show their concern for others in times like that. Plans, classwork, study, reading, writing, remembering, listening, homework, playing and lunch are just a few of the constant things going on as Classy Moments are being made at CMS.
