BodcawAline ClausPublished Wednesday, July 22, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune Sadness has come to our community again in the death of Floyd Hamm. Floyd lived at Prescott, but was from this area. His parents, Gerald and Cleo Hamm, still live here. Cleo had a heart attack and is in St. Michael Hospital. A military funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning at Bodcaw Cemetery. About 14 youth and sponsors will go to encampment at Gary, Texas, this week. I know they will enjoy it. Bodcaw Baptist Church will celebrate Sonlight Island Vacation Bible School on Saturday, August 1, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided. Children ages 2 through grade 6 are invited. For more information, call 899-2821 or 899-2700. The ladies of downtown Bodcaw church attended the Southwest Arkansas District UMA meeting at First Baptist in Magnolia. A good program and buffet meal was enjoyed. The special offering was given to Mrs. Nettie Bowman for medical expenses. Afterwards the ladies were treated to a tour of Dr. Grimmett's new home in Waldo by Sandy Grimmett. It was a fun day and also inspiring. Mrs. Nettie Ann Bowman is steadily improving after heart surgery in Houston. Her address is Room Y-1635, St. Luke's Hospital in Houston, Texas. A baby shower honoring the Sanders' twin daughters was given on July 19 at the home of Naomi Butler. Emilyn and Allyson are the daughters of Tim and Renee Sanders, granddaughters of Tim and Kim Boyd. The youth of Corinth Church enjoyed a time of fun and fellowship Saturday, July 18, in Texarkana. They ate pizza at Pizza Kitchen and then went Go-Cart riding and played miniature golf. About 17 young people and 10 adults had a great time. On Saturday, August 29, Corinth Church will have a one day Bible school. The theme will be 'Hooked on Jesus.' Children 3 years through teens will be included. Bodcaw Baptist men's softball team played their first game on July 16 and lost to First Baptist of Hope, 10 to 9. The second game, against Garrett Memorial, was lost 25 to 7. They had a good time despite the losses. Doris Shewbirt went to St. Michael Hospital Monday for a test of her heart. Bill and Lorrine Pittman of Wickes visited Bill and Doris Shewbirt and the all visited John L. and Virginia Williams. Lorrine and Doris worked together for 8 years in Texas. Bill and John L. talked of old times at Willisville. Mike and Jackie Allen of Lincoln visited parents, J.D. and Marie Allen. They also visited the Jack Fieldings.
