County Considers Time Sheets

No meeting of the Nevada County Quorum Court personnel policy committee has been held as of yet after appointing three members following an executive session in the June meeting.

JPs gathered Monday, July 18, and heard a brief report from Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Randy Wright during its regular session.

Wright told JPs if time sheets were not correct and an employee was paid for time they did not work, the responsibility goes back to the office holder or department head.

JPs suggested following an executive session in June that one or more employees were paid for working on Wednesday, May 20, the day following the preferential primary across Arkansas.

Wright said elected officials and department heads should be encouraged to verify when employees work.

JP Gary Lewis, who was appointed to the committee, told the group he thought the policies and procedures of the county should be amended to make all courthouse employees turn in time sheets or not get paid.

JP Willie Wilson, who also was appointed to the committee, suggested the committee meet before making any changes.

The group voted to table the matter until the committee was able to meet.

JPs heard a proposal from Nevada County Health Unit director Janet McAdams in which she will apply for grant money to finish the funding on a proposed geo-thermal heat and air unit at the new Nevada County Health Department.

McAdams told JPs she had about $85,000 in the state's budget for the heating and air unit at the proposed 5,500 sq. ft. building planned across the street from its current location.

McAdams said the geo-thermal unit could save nearly 80% on what they expect to pay for electricity from the city of Prescott when the building is completed and occupied.

Her grant proposal through a different state agency could make up the difference needed for the unit, but she asked JPs to be considering she may need some additional funds to put the unit in place.

It is expected the county could save over $6,000 a year with a geo-thermal unit at the health office compared to the system proposed for the new facility.

JPs approved a resolution backing a 100% grant for a Fun Park in Oak Grove.

The Fun Park is funded completely by the state, but a 20-year or longer lease is needed where the equipment is to be placed.

The Oak Grove Civic League has applied for the grant and a church has offered the property near the former Oak Grove Schools east of Rosston.

The grant is for $25,000 and will be similar to the park in Emmet. A similar park is in place in Gurdon.
