Troy and Sunny Efird of Gurdon are proud to announce the birth of their son, Patrick Campbell.' He arrived on Monday, September 20, 1999, weighing 6 pounds and 15= ounces. Campbell was 20 inches long. Maternal grandparents are B.J. and Paula O'Rear of Gurdon. His paternal grandparents are David and Donna Fears of Prattsville and Al Efird of Prescott. Welcoming Campbell home were numerous relatives and friends. Central Arkansas Development Council ended the 1999 Crisis Intervention Assistance program on September 28, due to depletion of funds. Bethlehem Baptist Church in Whelen Springs is holding its 148th annual homecoming Sunday, October 10. Sunday school will be at 10:00 a.m., followed by special speaker Bill Cato. Shady Grove Baptist Church in Curtis will present the gospel singing group Straight Up' Sat., October 9, at 7:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Former OBU football coach Buddy Benson will be the honoree at a roast and toast Saturday, October 9, at 5:30 p.m. in the banquet room of Evans Student Center. The cost for tickets to the roast is $10 and may be purchased through the office of OBU athletic director David Sharp at 870-245-5181. The newly formed Lions Club is now able to begin collecting old eye glasses. The collection point in Gurdon is the First Baptist Church or you can call Charles Shaver at 353-4640. The club will also have a booth at the Forest Festival. Old glasses are recycled by Lions International. Arkansas Rehabilitation Services will hold sessions at the Gurdon Municipal Building on October 14 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and October 28 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Area Agency on Aging of West Central Arkansas will have its annual board meeting Thursday, October 7, at 8:30 a.m. at the Hampton Inn in Hot Springs, 151 Temperance Hill. The public is invited to attend. Gurdon Masonic Lodge 187 meets the first and third Tuesday of each month. All members are urged to attend. Alcoholics Anonymous meets on Wednesdays and Sundays at 8:00 p.m. at the American Legion building, Highway 67 North, one mile out of Gurdon. For more information, phone 353-4698.
