Helms Is Dairy QueenPublished Wednesday, July 29, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneClark County 4-H member Leigh Helms has been chosen the 1998 Arkansas Dairy Princess. Helms is the 15-year-old daughter of Sandra Brown and Richard Helms. Grandparents are Raymond and Phena Hicks of Rosston. She is a member of the Baring Cross Baptist Church in Arkadelphia and Shining Stars 4-H Club. She was the Southwest District Record Book winner this year. Her main project in 4-H is horse science. She is very active in many 4-H activities. To become the 1998 Arkansas Dairy Princess Helms had to give a speech relating to the dairy industry. She was interviewed and attended a formal dinner. As 1998 Dairy Princess she will be handing out awards at the 1998 Arkansas Dairy Classic and Sale and the 1998 Arkansas State Fair. Helms met with Gov. Mike Huckabee on June 3 to proclaim National Dairy Month. She will also attend a dairy tour to the state of California. She will be hosting day care tours at her family's dairy farm. Helms will work together with Yarnell's and Dairy Max to promote the dairy industry. She is hoping to speak at various companies, such as Kraft and General Foods.
