Festival Successful; Contest Results Given

Prescott enjoyed one of the more successful Chicken and Egg Festivals yet.

According to Mary Godwin, executive director of the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce, several of the contests had more entries than ever, and competition was stiff. The crowd, she said, also appeared to be larger than last year in spite of the heat.

Five teams entered the women's softball tournament, with Mich Light of Texarkana coming out on top. Next up was the Bryant Express, followed by the Bullets of Rison.

Eleven teams hit the diamond at Bemis Field in the men's softball tilt, with Shelter of De Queen capturing first place. Politically Correct of Malvern was next, followed by Who's That of Hot Springs. Prescott's NWO was fourth.

Grunts and groans abounded at the weightlifting contest. In the pound and under division Eric Jackson won with a lift of 175. Jim Stockton was next at 170.

For the 181-210 classification, Robert Poole pushed up 330 pounds, while Harold White and Paul Hicks each lifted 325.

Jason Hartness captured the 211 and up category with a lift of 430 pounds. This was followed by a lift of 415 by Jonathan Sampson and 410 by Allen White.

Levi Fitch won the cackling and crowing competition, with Matt Haynie next, followed by Armontie Dickens in the youth division.

The adult portion was won by Brad McSweeny of Tulsa, Okla., with Tricia Thompson placing and Glenda Hughes in the show position.

In the 12 and under division of the Coop Hoop basketball contest, the No Limit Soldiers, consisting of D. Muldrew, Derek Muldrew, Chris White and Tario Dansby, took the top spot.

Next up was the Arkansas Razorbacks, made up of Raymond Smith, Rico Brown, Calvin Brown and Andre Lewis.

The 13-14 winners were the Small Soldiers, featuring Keon Sockwell, Jermone Haynie, Justin Tidwell and Rico Hopper.

Second place was taken by White Blaze, with Jordan Hess, Jonathan Wish, Rick Gober and D. Osborne.

The Panthers took the 15-17 division, with the team made up of Matt Brannon, Terry Woodley, Frick Hopson and Edward Glenn.

Second place in this area was won by 2 and Through, with Jarrod Miller, Brandon Wilson, Eric Haynie and Sidney Chiles.

Aaron Ellis, with his summer citrus chicken took the top spot for the first annual Cooking Contest in the chicken division. Judy Duke's cabbage chicken netted second place.

In the egg recipe contest, Nancy Stockton's egg custard cream puffs tasted like a winner to the judges, while Janice Carter's egg pie finished second.

For the beauty pageants, in the 0-18 months division, Guadalupe AnaAlicia Ramos was the winner. Hardi Hicks finished first, with Lexi Ledbetter second.

In the 18-months to three years girls category, Brittney Sullivan took home the crown, with Daiton Butler first and Samantha Brown second.

Kaylee Bren Fincher was the winner in the 4-5 girls group, while Jalla Hicks was first and Shelly Beth Glass finished second.

Caitlin Stockton went home with the crown for the 6-7 slot, as Melina Sturman was first and Alejandra Louise Brooke Ramos was second.

For the boys 0-18 month class, Dillon Lee Sturman was the winner, with Dusty Wayne Glass first and Thomas Dylan Hubbard second.

From 18-months to three years, Mason Andrew Prine was the winner, with Kellen Stockton first and Dayne Ghormley second.

Dakota Butler went home with the crown in the boys 4-5 division, with Corben Manzella first.

Billy Hines' 1930 Model A took top spot in the pre-war class of the antique car show. Bill Brammer, with a 1928 Ford, was second, while James Kelly's 1939 Chevy was third.

John Priestly's 1955 Chevy won the post-war classification, with Perry Rice's 1948 Rolls Royce second and Terry Norris' 1968 Firebird third.

For the truck category, E.J. Pruitt's 1953 Chevy was the winner. Hines' '46 Ford was second, with James Kelly's '66 GMC third.

In the classic division, Tod Waller's 1981 Chevy won, with Duke Massey's 1973 Oldsmobile finishing second.

Finally, the tennis tourney winners showed Rodney May and Wayne Ross taking the men's double title, with Gary Lowdermilk and Kiley Burton second. The tandem of Jonathan McDaniel and Jeff Miley finished third.

In women's doubles, Jan Perry and Mary Ann Waters captured the crown, while Maria Morrow and Joyce Martin finished second. Dawn Connolly and Judy Starrett came in third.

For the "B" division in women's doubles, Connie Martin and B.J. Hampton were the winners, with Sherri Jordan and Vickie Clark finishing second.

Mixed doubles saw the team of Rodney May and Angel Gould win the tourney. Wayne Ross and Maria Morrow came in second, with Gene and Joyce Martin third.

For the boy's 18's, Brad Gordon took the top spot, with Matt Brannon second and Jason Lefford third.

Megan Martin captured the girls 12 division, with Leslie Gordon second.
