No Relieve On Utility Rates For Electrical Customers

Do not expect your electric rate to be lowered this summer if you live in the city of Prescott.

Prescott's City Council was not able to meet before the end of July as hoped due to vacations and conflicting schedules by attorneys.

Officials hoped to meet last Thursday or Friday to reduce electrical rates from 9.5 cents per kilowatt hour (KWH) to 7.94 cents per KWH.

If the council approves the reduction in August, the new rate will only be effective for September before winter rates go into effect.

Under the current rate structure, residents will pay two-tenths of a cent less this winter (7.74 cents, October through April) than under the proposed flat rate of 7.94 cents.

Proposed lower rates are a reflection of an 11% rate reduction the city of Prescott has worked out with Entergy. It is expected the council will pass on an average reduction to consumers of 9% when the new rate structure is approved.
