James M. SimmonsPublished Wednesday, August 12, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesJames M. Simmons, 60, died July 23, 1998, at his residence following a long illness of cancer. Mr. Simmons was a native of Gurdon, but he had lived in Petal, Miss., for the past 20 years. He was a crew chief for Mississippi Forestry Commission and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tony T. and Lettie Graham Simmons. Survivors include his wife, Opal Simmons of Petal, Miss.; one daughter, Annette Stuart of McLaurin, Miss.; one son, Tracy Simmons of Hattisburg, Miss.; four stepdaughters, DeDe Moffett of Brooklyn, Miss., Janet Griggs of Bellevue, Miss., and Deborah McKinley and Rebecca Foles, both of Petal; one brother, Dwayne Simmons of Shreveport, La.; four sisters, Margie Mullings of Garland, Texas, Helen Crosby of Little Rock, and Pauline Davis and Inetha Reed, both of Longview, Texas; and 13 grandchildren. Services were held Monday, July 27, at 1:30 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home in Petal. Rev. Keith Skelton officiated. Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery in Petal under the direction of Moore Funeral Home.
