Frontier Day Set At Old WashingtonPublished Wednesday, August 12, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneStep back to the 19th centruy! Celebrate the 22nd annual Frontier Day at Old Washington Historic State Park near Hope, September 26. Teachers may make reservations for Friday's (September 25) student based programs. Watch artisans demonstrating blacksmithing, spinning, quilting, pioneer cooking, tin soldier making, basket making, shingle riving and other pioneer crafts and skills. Have a try at throwing the 'hawk,' dipping a candle, sawing with the 'crosscut,' or taking a double lick' with the hand auger. Civil War and Pioneer reenactors and Native Americans will show skills of the frontier. Enjoy bluegrass, country and gospel music performances. Historic Williams' Tavern Restaurant (c. 1832) will be open for dining pleasure. Festival activities will be held 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday. School group programming will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday and continue until 2 p.m. Frontier Day admission fee is $2 for adults and $1 for children ages 6-12.
