Otwell Wins Gold MedalsPublished Wednesday, August 12, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneSeven-year-old Zayne Otwell, a member of the Hope Watermelon swim team, competed at the 1998 South Arkansas Swim Association (SASA) Championship at Ouachita Baptist University Saturday, July 25. Otwell won two gold medals in back stroke and free style. He won a sliver in breast stoke and a bronze in the butterfly stroke. He was awarded SASA Highpoint for scoring the most points in his division. Otwell was the only swimmer of the Hope swim team to achieve this high honor. The swim teams that competed in SASA were Hope, Arkadelphia, Camden, Magnolia, Pine Bluff and El Dorado. Otwell was also awarded highpoint and most outstanding male swimmer of the Hope swim team. He is the son of Larry and Dana Otwell of Prescott. He is the brother of Zack and Zoie Beth. Grandparents are Pauline Hawley of Hope, Mary Joe Hendrix of Prescott and Bob Otwell of California.
