Oak GroveLula Q. KendrickPublished Wednesday, August 12, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune New Salem A.M.E. Church's 46th annual homecoming was held Sunday, August 9. We really did have a good time. Rev. Robert McCoy preached in the morning. He is a good speaker. Afternoon service was conducted by Rev. Bobby Box, pastor of Harrison Chapel Baptist Church. He really did put the finishing touch to the day. His choir really did sing good and his ushers did a wonderful job. The crowd wasn't as large as it was last year. We did pretty good in finances. New Salem was my home church. I still call it home. Homecoming and revival services at Harrison Chapel Baptist Church in Rosston is August 23-28 at 2:30 p.m. The speaker will be Rev. George E. Smith. Guest church is Greater St. Paul Baptist Church of Camden. Revival will start at 7:30 p.m. nightly with evangelist Rev. I. McDaniel and guest church Greenville Baptist Church of Fordyce. My cousin and one of my best friends visited me Saturday. Lawrence Christopher from Los Angeles, Calif., visited and Odell Simpson and his sister Adell Rucks also visited. Elmer Lee Young stops by ever now and then to check on George. He really looks forward to seeing him. He asked about the church since he is not able to go. W.L. Bazzelle Marks celebrated his 100th birthday July 15. He lives with his son and daughter-in-law, William E. and Minnie, in Hockessin, Del. The celebration was held at Absalom Jones Senior Citizens Center in Hockessin. He is called Big Daddy by family members and Willy by friends.
