Oak GroveLula Q. KendrickPublished Wednesday, August 19, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune Homecoming at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Willisville was held Sunday, August 16. There were a lot of people from out of state. It was really nice. The spirit was really high. A home boy preached Sunday evening Elder Hershel Martin from Hope. His church choir can really sing. I would like to hear him again. Annual homecoming will be at Kendrick Chapel Baptist Church in Waldo on August 23 at 2:30 p.m. Guest minister will be Rev. James Hill from Bethel A.M.E. Church of Hope. Rev. T.W. McCraw is the pastor. Revival will be August 24 with the evangelist being Rev. Phillips Porchia, pastor at Zion Travel Baptist Church in Clarksville, Texas. Jessie B. Jones visited George and me Friday. We really did enjoy him talking about the good times at Oak Grove. B.J. Allison visited us Saturday. He lives at El Dorado. He was on his way to see his daughter in Hope. He was a product of Oak Grove School. The following people paid their cemetery dues at New Salem on the second Sunday. They are Helen Jenkins, Milton Young, Lula Kendrick, Benora Box, Dorothy Christopher, Narvell Gulley, Ardell Johnson, Earnest Clark, Richard Young, Staples family, Girtie B. Young Blake family, John Williams family, Mamie Evans family, Lewis Young, Roland Marsh family, Derris Ingram family, L.V. Gulley, Lillie Mae Blackely, Fred Williams family paid by Betty Williams, Jay Heard, Allen family, Corrine Morgan, Josie Simpson, Josie Simpson, Willie L. Leaks and wife, Lunell Dismuke, Adell Rucks, Adell Simpson, Naomi Young, Jessie Young, Toney family paid by Clyde Toney, Pagenic Hubbard, Gladys Hubbard Hughes, Clyde Simpson, Elmer Lee Young family, Earline Marsh, donation from friends, Samuel Evans, Mute T. Gulley and Daisy Gulley, Mrs. Vera Purifoy and the Madison family. The cemetery committee thanks you for the support on help keeping the cemetery kept up. The cemetery is being kept up well. I am secretary. Girtie B. Blake is the treasurer. Those of you who have not paid your dues send it to Lula Q. Kendrick, Rosston, AR 71857, so I can give you credit. We do not want to loose our caretaker. He does a good job. Minnie Bazzelle passed away in Gary, Ind., Saturday. Her funeral has not been set at this time.
