james Norman MurphyPublished Wednesday, August 19, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesJames 'Jimmy' Norman Murphy, also known as Sarge, 56, of Malvern died Wednesday, August 12, 1998. Mr. Murphy was a retired U.S. Army veteran with 33 years of service. He had served two tours in Vietnam. He was a life member of the VFW, Eagles, and Elks, and a retired ROTC instructor. Mr. Murphy was the recipient of the Bronze Star, a U.S. Presidential Citation and a Vietnamese Presidential Citation. He is the grandson of Addie Wingfield and the late Hoyt Wingfield. He was preceded in death by sister, Peggy Darlene Murphy. Survivors include one son, James Murphy of Columbus, Ga.; two daughters, Peggy Darlene Hogg of Kilgore, Texas, and Deannia Jean Murphy of Smyrna, Tenn.; two sisters, Hilda Murphy Marshall of Albuquerque, N.M., and Jwenda Norwood of Malvern; and six grandchildren.
