Classy MomentsPublished Wednesday, August 19, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesWe're back! Excitement is in the air at Cabe Middle School. The new facility is simply beautiful. Several teachers were at work two weeks early just to be present when their 'old' room contents were being moved to a facility that is second to none, one that citizens of Gurdon and the surrounding area can be proud of. Open house was held last week and approximately 200 very pleased guests enjoyed the tour of the new Cabe Middle School. Comments such as, "This is really beautiful," "It is so nice and clean," "I never expected it to be so nice," "This is something we can all be proud of," were heard and these are just a few of the remarks. The teachers were beaming with pride and excitement as the guests visited their classrooms. Each one had added their personal touch in the arrangement of their "home away from home." If there were any complaints while unpacking was being accomplished, they were so quiet that they were not heard. When the first truck with the new furniture arrived, it did not matter that the temperature was near 100 degrees, as we knew those boxes contained items we had only dreamed about and hoped for. Several of the old student desks were in bad condition, but we made do with what we had. Probably many of you readers used the same desk that your child, or for some, your grandchild, also used. Now, with the new desks, the students should be more comfortable and have plenty of desk top space for their books without knocking them off while in the process of turning pages, etc. Teachers also have new desks. It's just wonderful! The teacher work area has plenty of room, lots of storage space and such a nice bright atmosphere. Words cannot be found to describe the beauty of the teacher's lounge, except "Wow!" We are still asking, "Is this for real?" It is definitely the most beautiful lounge one could ever imagine. The entire building is one that you can be proud of. We are in need of more classrooms. That is right. Although we have this new facility, it still needs more rooms. The school board was aware of this when they voted to go ahead with what could be done at present, as prices keep going up in the construction business. Now you are being asked to help our school district by voting yes for the three-mill tax increase. Progress has been made, but your help is needed to continue to succeed to provide the best educational environment for the students of Gurdon. The revenue generated by the three- mill tax increase will make the following realities:
The three-mill increase will provide a physical educational building, a gym and dressing rooms strictly for the middle school students. It will provide new rooms for additional academic courses. A new football stadium is also included Yes, a new stadium and field house, metal bleachers, new lighting, track around the field and a new concession stand. Our track teams have to go out of town for all of their competition, as we do not have a track at present. Our school district has been involved in major construction projects with the new high school and middle school. We need your support to complete the job that is of great need. We ask that you continue your support of the Gurdon Schools, not just for what we have, but what we can provide to make the facilities available that will allow our students the maximum opportunity to succeed. As this article is being written before the first day for the students to arrive, you will hear about their reactions to the new facility next week. With great pleasure, excitement, and appreciation, we will continue to make those Classy Moments at Cabe Middle School. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
