Published Wednesday, August 19, 1998 in the Gurdon Times

It's head banging time for those boys and girls interested in playing pee wee football.

Sign-up for the Arkadelphia Parks and Recreation 1998 Football Season will end Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Students ages 10-12, or fourth through sixth grades, weighing at least 80 pounds can sign up. The registration fee is $15 per child.

Parents or guardians may buy or rent helmets and shoulder pads. Rental for these items is $10 each per child.

In addition, pants and a mouthpiece must be purchased from a sporting goods store. These items will be about $16.

Conditioning practice began Monday, Aug. 10, at Feaster Park for those who signed up early. Practices will be held Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 4:30-5:30 p.m.

On Aug. 25, new players skills tests will be given from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Feaster as well.

Gurdon players will be allowed to have a maximum of 20 players per team and are encouraged to register early. Gurdon is expected to have more than one team this year.

Local players will work out in Gurdon, but all games will be played in Arkadelphia.

Applications for the season will be handed out at school.

For more information, call Tony Russell at 353-2173 or Danny Deaton at 353-6307.

Those interested in participating are urged to register as soon as possible so plans can be made to organize teams and order jerseys.
