Gurdon Jaycees Win Awards At ConventionPublished Wednesday, August 26, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesThe South Clark County Jaycees (Gurdon), were recognized at the June national convention in Las Vegas. The Jaycees submitted five projects to be judged. The Jaycees were awarded three national awards, presented by national president, Eric Siedel. The Jaycees are proud of their accomplishments. The Gurdon Jaycees were successful their first time to compete on a national level. They placed third in Chapter Activities for their installation banquet. They also placed third in State and National Punt, Pass and Kick. The Jaycees placed fourth in Member Services for CPR, Fire Extinguisher Safety, and Piano Lessons. They are very excited about their accomplishments. August boards were held August 21-23. The Jaycees were awarded first place for their Political Rally and Debate in Government Involvement. This project also won the Sweepstakes Award on the state level. The Jaycees are preparing their Chapter Plan of Action for the upcoming year. The public is welcome to submit suggestions or comments on past or future projects. The Jaycees are also planning projects to involve the school system. Punt, Pass and Kick is coming soon. The Jaycee's regular meeting time is the first Thursday of each month. The more people working in the community, the more improvement will be made. The Jaycees are a Leadership Training Organization for young people ages 21-39. If there is a need in the community, please contact the Jaycees at 353-4025 and speak to Kenneth Harper.
