CLASSY MOMENTS

Published Wednesday, August 26, 1998 in the Gurdon Times

Wednesday, August 19, was the big day for Cabe Middle School, as it was the first day of school for the students. It was so rewarding watching them gather at the door, as they were trying to get a peep of what it was like inside. When the doors were opened for the grand entry, the remarks, "Oh my goodness," "I can't believe what I'm seeing," "Hey, man, look at this," "Is this for real?" "Where is my classroom?" were just a few that brought smiles like we had not seen before.

Each grade was sent to the media center for an orientation of new hand books, rules and information about the building. During that time, the other classes were given a tour of the building by each of the teachers. It is just difficult to explain to you the feelings, expressions and admiration that the students expressed. They are certainly indicating appreciation and great pride for their new school.

I have always been told that you do not thank the sender for flowers when they are received. This may be just an old myth, but we can certainly thank Mrs. Hargrave for the special thoughtfulness she shared with us with beautiful colors and soothing aromas in an arrangement of a special touch that has graced our lounge.

The teachers are still admiring their lounge. They want to express their sincere appreciation to Anita Cabe for having the lounge furnished in such eloquent decor. Anita, you have made each of us feel very, very special and we thank you.

Parents, we would like to thank you for the patience you had the first few days, as you handled the parking to safely drop off your child extremely well, just like a pro! As it was new to all of us, you really have made that concern simple. Thank you.

The play yard at the east end of the building is in need of picnic tables, benches and pavilions. It has been very hot for the students when they are outside and some shady areas are greatly needed. They would enjoy the opportunity to sit down and visit with friends, but we do not have anything for them at present. It will take time for us to realize that, but if you would like to help out in this need, we certainly would appreciate donations.

Each day seems to bring greater admiration for what we have. We would like to express a thank you to the school board members for going ahead and making this dream come true for not only the present, but also for years to come. We will always consider the Cabe Foundation to be very special and the "gift" will be a treasure that will be enjoyed for generations to come enjoyed by unknown numbers of young people who will be preparing to be the leaders of tomorrow.

If you have not guessed it already, excitement is in the air at Cabe Middle School. Just don't forget that each of you is special to us, as we depend on you for your support. We want to share the happiness we are experiencing with you as we make those Classy Moments at Cabe Middle School.
