CADC Offers Relief

Published Wednesday, August 26, 1998 in the Gurdon Times

The Central Arkansas Development Council (CADC) has announced the implementation of the local heat relief efforts in CADC's service area.

The agency began taking applications Monday, August 10, to assist those qualified with utility bills, for fan distribution and for crisis assistance, which could be an air conditioner for eligible households that do not have air conditioning.

This summer emergency energy assistance program requires that applicants meet income guidelines.

To qualify for the fan program, applicants must be born before September 1, 1933, or have certain medical conditions.

The crisis program is for households that are about to have their energy disconnected or for those households that do not have air conditioning.

Households that apply for air conditioners must meet all crisis guidelines and have a statement from a medical doctor requiring air conditioning because of a medical condition of a household member.

Summer assistance is also available for households that are not facing a crisis, but which have high energy bills.

When applying, bring verification of all household income for the month prior to application.

Applications will be taken in Gurdon at the Senior Adult Center, 410 East Main, 353- 2095.

Applications are taken Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.
