Lions Club Installs Officers

Gary Lewis has been installed as president of the Prescott Lions Club.

Doyle Brewer, immediate past chairman of Arkansas Lions Council of Governors, officiated at the installation ceremonies recently at the local Lions Club meeting.

First vice president is Kay Hendrix; second vice president is Billy Inscore; and third vice president, Herbert Adams.

John Purifoy is treasurer; Joan Stuard is secretary; Tommy Johnson is tail twister; Cindy Barham is Lion tamer; and Ed Hubbard is membership chairman.

Other board members are Eric Barbaree, Barbara Brown and Ivory Curry.

At the meeting, Bill Freeman, immediate past District Governor, thanked the Prescott club for its successful year just completed.

Prescott Lions club civic contributions for the past year have been $1,340 to Nevada County Weather Center to purchase early severe weather warning computer; eye exams and glasses for 15 Nevada County students; eye exam and glasses for one adult; picnic table to Mid- South Lions Sight auction in Memphis; $400 to Nevada County Rescue Unit for boat, motor and trailer; $1,000 scholarship to a graduating Nevada County senior; $500 scholarship to graduating a Nevada County senior; $300 to Prescott Shuttle; $300 to Prescott High School band for six half scholarships to Henderson State University Band Camp; talking printer for Lions World Services for the Blind in Little Rock; $300 to Prescott 16 and under AAU Youth Sports; sponsored baseball team; $500 to Caddo Area Boy Scouts to sponsor troop; $100 to Prescott Chamber of Commerce to purchase trees for beautification project; $20 to Henry's Lights at Nevada County Courthouse; $200 to family of terminally ill Nevada County teen cancer patient; $200 to family of hospitalized Nevada County teen patient; $250 to Leader Dogs for the Blind; members manned gates at the Nevada County Fair; $1,000 to Mid-South Lions Sight in Memphis; $50 to American Diabetes Association for youth summer camp scholarship at Morrilton; operated concessions at Chicken and Egg Festival, Political Rally, Nevada County Fair and Christmas on the Square; annual Christmas auction; 29 Christmas food baskets for needy Nevada County families; clothes and toys for five needy Nevada County families; delivered Christmas food baskets to all Prescott Nursing Home residents; and $1,000 to Operation Breadbasket in Prescott.

District Governor John Barnett announced the following members would serve in district cabinet positions for the coming year: Curtis Lee Johnson, vice district governor; George Ivey, zone chairman; and Joan Stuard, Lioness chairman.

Brewer inducted Cindy Barham, Nancy Burke and Charles Backus as new Lions in the Prescott club.

He also awarded the following service pins: 25-year Chevrons to charter members Ed Hubbard, George Ivey and Curtis Johnson; 10-year Chevron to George Odom; and Legacy of Lions to Curtis Johnson.

Brewer also presented perfect attendance awards to Herbert Adams, Kay Hendrix, Ed Hubbard, George Ivey, Curtis Johnson, Tommy Johnson, Gary Lewis, John Purifoy and Joan Stuard.
