American Cancer Society Golf Tournament

The American Cancer Society golf tournament raised $6,704 for the Nevada Unit of the ACS.

The tournament was held on August 8 with 35 teams participating. This was more than had played previously in any ACS tournament in Prescott, according to a news release.

Next year the tournament will be played in two sessions in order to accommodate more teams.

The ACS board of directors would like to thank all who participated and especially all the sponsors who are always so willing to donate prizes and money.

The corporate sponsors for this year's tournament were: Charles Vermont, Michael Young, Prescott Motor Company, Bank of Prescott, Bank of Delight, Prescott Land and Timber, Van Oil Company, McKenzie McRae, Vasser and Barber, Auto Parts and Supply, Nevada County Ambulance Service, Split Rail, Percy Malone, Wilson Forestry Services and Carl Dalrymple, P.A. Corporate sponsors were those contributing $100 or more.

More than 65 business and individuals donated prizes and/or money to help support the tournament and the ACS.

Volunteers helping with the tournament and serving lunch were Phyllis Stewart, Joan Barton, Betty and Jim McKenzie, Katherine Crain, Nita Kay Freeman, Al Dalrymple, Elizabeth Haltom, Mary Cobb, Scootie DeLamar, May Hairston, Patsy Womble, Allene Spencer, Marie Ely, and Carl and Lanora Dalrymple.

The winning golf tournament teams were: championship flight, Chambliss, Reddin, Grimes and Glass; first flight, Larry Bruce's team from Hope; and second flight, Cornelius, Cornelius, Graham and Graham.

Many of Nevada County's cancer patients can be helped because of the generosity of the Nevada County people.

In April over $8,800 was raised through door-to-door and business campaign.
