KNIFE FIGHT

At least four men were injured in a knife fight in the Bluff City area Sunday morning.

According to reports from the Nevada County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred on County Road 27 between Bluff City and Reader. Several men got involved in a verbal altercation, which quickly turned physical and knives were drawn.

Samuel Madison, 20, of Bluff City, was seriously injured in the melee, requiring three and a half hours of surgery for cuts to his face, head, back and abdomen.

Also injured in the fight was Cullen Ray Gulley Jr., 25, of Bluff City, who was treated and released for cuts received. Donny Simms, 51, of Bluff City, was treated and released after being struck in the head with a foreign object, and Michael Sorrells, 22, of Bluff City, was treated for cuts to his hands and arm.

According to Wayne Kisselburg, criminal investigator for the NCSO and PPD, alcohol was involved in the incident, but what started the fight is unknown at this time. The altercation is under investigation with charges pending.
