Alcoholics Anonymous, a fellowship of men and women who wish to stop drinking, meets every Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church.

Al-Anon, for those affected by another's drinking, meets Thursday evenings at 8:00 in the church. For more information call 887-5991.


Mom's in Touch weekly prayer group, praying for local schools and children, meet Tuesdays at 1:45 at First Baptist Church. Call 887-6376 for more information.


The class of 1950 will have a class reunion Friday, October 15, and Saturday, October 16, at 6 p.m. each night in the First Baptist Church educational building. Guests are invited. For more information call Maxine Freeman at 887-2267.


Grandpa's Place located on Highway 355 East near Patmos is having their last gospel concert this year on October 16 at 7 p.m. The featured groups are Gospel Chimes, The Ambassadors, Hendrix Trio. Included in the Hendrix Trio is Ryan, who is in the third grade and Ranessa, a first grader who has recorded her first song.

Admission is free, but you need to take your lawn chair.


A representative of the Texarkana Social Security office will be at the Nevada County Courthouse on Thursday, October 28; Tuesday, November 23, and Tuesday, December 21.

Supplemental security income (SSI) pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled or blind and who do not own much or have much income. SSI is not just for adults. To find out if you are eligible, call 1-800-772-1213.


There will be a singing at Boughton Baptist Church Saturday, October 16, at 7 p.m. The musical group will be New Dawning.

Everyone is invited. There will be refreshments after the singing.


The Nevada County Recycle and Work Center will be having an open house Thursday, October 28, from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. at 314 E. 2nd Street South.

They invite you to tour the newly renovated facility.


Morrow Cemetery Association and family reunion will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday, October 24. There will be potluck lunch.

In case of inclement weather the meeting will be in the Prescott Housing Authority community room.


The monthly Chamber of Commerce coffee will be Wednesday, October 13, hosted by Nevada County Unit of The American Cancer Society, at 9:30 to 11:00 at Central Baptist Church.

Everyone is invited.


A ribbon-cutting for Love's and Hardees will be held Thursday, October 14, at 9 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend.


Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Birdsong of Rowlett, Texas, announce the arrival of their second child and first daughter, Baily Denese.

Baily was born at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday, September 8, 1999, and weighed 6 pounds and 15 ounces. She was 19 inches long. She welcomed home by her brother, Braydon.

Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Choyce McDaniel of Sachse, Texas, and Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Birdsong of Prescott. Great grandparents is Mrs. Mildred Walls of Garland, Texas.


All Prescott High School seniors of 1969 are invited to attend their 30-year class reunion October 16.

Classmates will attend Prescott's homecoming Friday, October 15, at 7:30 and have a pizza party at Simple Simon's after the game. The reunion will be held at the Prescott Country Club October 16 from 7:00 a.m. till 12:00 noon.
