McKinnon Earns Merit Award

Katie McKinnon of Gurdon is among 19 junior members of the American Simmental Association (ASA) to receive the prestigious ASA Merit Award. She received the Gold Award, which includes a $500 stipend to be used for post-secondary educational purposes.

A job with the U. S. Department of Agriculture is McKinnon's career goal after she graduates from Southern Arkansas University (SAU) in May of 1999. She has served in leadership positions in several cattle-based organizations, including two terms as president of the local Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter and state FFA secretary, and president of the SAU Agri Club. She has also played an active role as an officer in the Arkansas Junior Simmental Association and she has served as Arkansas Cattlemen's Association Beef Princess.
