Three men and a juvenile have been charged with second degree battery after a fight sent a fifth to the hospital.

According to reports from the Nevada County Sheriff's Office, Douglas Benedict, 32, of Prescott, was at a party with the others Saturday, Sept. 5, around 4:15 a.m.

The group got into an argument after Benedict, who was dating one of the other men's mother, reportedly called her some offensive names. This allegedly got the brawl started.

The NCSO was called to Medical Park Hospital and notified of the beating. Sheriff Steve Otwell took the report, with Robert Helmick Jr., 19, Chris Helmick, 20, Chris Mullin, 19, and a juvenile all being arrested and charged with second degree battery.

According to the NCSO reports, alcohol was involved in the incident.

ASSAULT CHARGED

Gene Casper, 22, of Prescott, was arrested Saturday, Sept. 5, and charged with aggravated assault and terroristic threatening in the first degree after pulling a handgun on five others, including three juveniles.

According to NCSO reports, the group was at Casper's home and had been drinking when an argument broke out.

Casper reportedly grabbed a .25-caliber handgun, with the others running. He allegedly said he would shoot if they didn't stop, when one of the youths fell down.

Reports state Casper got on top of the youth, holding the gun to his head and threatening to kill him and the others.
