Rodeo fans will enjoy the kickoff of the 1998 Nevada County Fair this year.

This year's fair will begin with Bull Bash '98, presented by the Prescott FFA Alumni. There will be 50 bulls for the cowboys to try and ride, for a purse of $1,500 and added money.

The bash is sanctioned by the North American Bullriders Association, with the livestock provided by Grant Productions.

Tickets will be $7 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. The books opened at 7p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, with entry fees being $70 per rider.

On the other side of the spectrum, the fair will end with the Lil' Britches Rodeo at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the fairgrounds.

Admission for this event will be $3 for adults and $2 for children.

Events for the Lil' Britches Rodeo include a calf flag race, with two divisions. One for children six and under, and the other for those seven to 12. There will be two divisions of boys calf tying, for those 14 and under, and 15-18.

Calf riding for boys will be open to those age 8-10, while there will be two divisions of barrel racing. The first slot will be for racers 13 and under, with the other for ages 14-18.

The barrel pickup will be for contestants 18 and under, as is the chute dogging event and hide slide.

Muttin Bustin will be open to the first 30 who enter and are age seven and below.

There will be two divisions for girls goat tying, one for those 13 and below, and the other from 14-18.

Steer riding will also have two classes, one for cowboys 11-14 and the other for those 15- 18.

All around buckles will be given to the high point winners in the boys and girls divisions.

Registration will be done at the fairgrounds at the following times: Sunday, Sept. 20, from 2-4 p.m.; Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 7-8:30 p.m; and Saturday, Sept. 26, from 2-4:30 p.m.

Parents must enter, pay and sign a release at the time of registration. Entry fees for all events except the flag race will be $10. Flag racers will pay $2.

All events will be limited to the first 15 who enter, with the exception of muttin bustin, open to 30, and the flag race, which has no limit.

All contestants must be at the arena no later than 5:45 p.m. the day of the rodeo.
