Classy MomentsPublished Wednesday, September 23, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesThe students at Cabe Middle School were made to feel right at home last week, as they heard, "Be sure to clean your feet before coming inside." We are so grateful for the rain, but if there is a mud puddle anywhere within one foot of a child you probably know what will happen. We just cannot express how much we appreciate the concern and dedication that Virginia Giles and Tonya Morton deserve for the way they are keeping our building clean. They are seen several times a day cleaning the tracked-in mud from the hall floors. Students have commented on how often the hall is cleaned, as well as the rest rooms, and etc. It speaks highly of the workers when the students are aware of the care that is involved in keeping the building clean. A very special guest, Anita Cabe, was given a tour of our school for the first time since we have occupied it. She expressed excitement of how nice everything is and how glad she is that the students have such a beautiful facility. Although by a small margin, the three-mill tax increase did pass. The need for the extra classrooms and physical education building for our school can now become a reality. The new stadium will benefit both Gurdon Middle and High Schools and will be a source of pride for Gurdon for years to come. The repairs at the Gurdon Primary School can be accomplished and not too soon as there is great need at that building. It is difficult to realize that 47 years have passed while that school has seen thousands of students come and go from there. It is time for repair! The junior high football team defeated Sparkman. We are so proud of our team. Great job, guys! Of course the cheerleaders are a big part of the 'team' as they keep right on cheering for the players, even if the score is not always in our favor. It just takes teamwork to get the job done and we have an excellent team! Stanford 9! Our students took the Stanford 9 test last week. For three days they were busy with timed testing. They heard, "Be sure to bring two #2 lead pencils, get a good night's sleep, eat a hearty breakfast, and listen to directions" so many times they were getting tired of hearing the same thing over and over. I must say, however, they handled the situation extremely well. Good job! Terry, Bryan and Don, we thank you. We now have a covered walkway to the cafeteria. Such a super addition to our campus and we really appreciate it. Crickets! Crickets! Anyone needing any crickets just let us know. It seems we have been invaded with crickets, inside as well as outside. With all the chirping, it sounds like a 'symphony.' New shirts, some purple, gold and white, are being worn by the faculty. They have CMS Faculty written on each shirt and each faculty member selected his color choice. Looking good! Always enjoy hearing that you enjoy our article, but please let the Gurdon Times know that also. Keep reading about us as we continue to make Classy Moments at CMS.
