Allen was blindsided by Flemons at the 20 as no one touched the defender on the blitz.

This put the Devils in a third and 18 situation. Allen hit Charles on a screen, but the play only gained a yard.

Gurdon called time out with 8:42 left in the contest, with everyone in the stands knowing the Devils would be going for it on fourth down.

When play resumed, Gurdon was flagged for illegal motion, making their job even tougher. Allen was then sacked at the 25, giving Prescott the ball on downs.

This failed drive appeared to have taken the wind out of the Gurdon defense as the Wolves marched the length of the field for their final touchdown. The drive took 10 plays, used nearly six minutes and was capped with Flemons scoring from seven-yards out. The PAT made it 22-0.

After the touchdown, Gurdon ran three plays, was penalized for delay of game and punted the ball back to Prescott.

The punt went to Harris at Gurdon's 48, being returned to the 37.

First down, though, was a fumble recovered by the Devils at their own 36.

Gurdon's final series began with a penalty for illegal procedure, followed by Allen being stopped and another flag for illegal motion.

Allen was picked off by Kenneth Pearson at the Prescott 45, with a flag against Gurdon for interference being declined.

Harris too a knee to end the game with the Wolves winning 22-0.

In all honesty, neither team played well at all. Runners missed holes, while blockers missed assignments.

The Wolves stacked the line on every defensive play, keeping Gurdon's potent running game in check, while blitzes kept the passing attack from ever getting started.

Had the Devils been able to protect the quarterback long enough, the Prescott defense left its middle wide open and vulnerable. The only time Gurdon tested the middle, the Devils almost scored on the slant from Allen to Griffin.

Unofficial statistics show Gurdon to be three of 10 in pass attempts for 25 yards. Prescott was two of nine for eight yards.

Both teams punted seven times in the game. Gurdon had a total of 232 yards from punts, with 26 return yards given up. The Devils averaged 33.3 yards per punt.

Prescott netted 38.7 yards per punt as the Wolves booted the ball 271 total yards, with three return yards.

Gurdon was penalized six times in the game for losses of 30 yards, while Prescott was flagged three times for 20 yards.

The Devils fumbled three times, losing all three. Prescott put the ball on the ground twice, losing both as well.

First downs were relatively even with Gurdon earning six while Prescott had seven.

Sacks, however, were lopsided as Allen was sacked five times, and Harris was caught once in the backfield.

Gurdon ran a total of 42 offensive plays, with Prescott running 44.

The Devils had 25 yards passing, with Prescott getting eight.

Gurdon's ground game was held to 53 total yards, while the Wolves managed 149.

The total yardage for Gurdon was 78 to Prescott's 151.

Charles led Gurdon's rushing attack with 29 yards on 10 carries. He was followed by Hopson who gained 17 yards on three plays. Hatley carried seven times for four yards, while Allen kept the ball 11 times for three yards. Mitchell carried once for no gain.

In other games of interest to Gurdon fans, Hot Springs Lakeside dumped the Horatio Lions 35-21; De Queen whipped Murfreesboro 28-6; Foreman edged Fouke 14-6; Mineral Springs took care of Lewisville 47-0; Stamps stomped Bernice, La. 30-16, and the Dierks Outlaws managed a tie against Bismarck at 6-6.

This week, the Devils return to the friendly confines of Gus Brown Stadium as they begin the games that really count with conference action beginning. Gurdon will play host to the Mineral Springs Hornets with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
