Wolves Blank Gurdon 22-0 (cont)Published Wednesday, September 23, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayunea 15-yard gainer. Next he made it to the Gurdon 49, then came up shy two inches of the first down. Bullock got the honors with a sneak play, but worked well enough to get to the Gurdon 37. Woodley then gained five more, but a penalty on the next play set the Wolves back five. Once more Woodley got the call and gained eight yards. The next play was eighter a broken play or a draw, but it worked. From the shotgun Bullock stepped back in the pocked then ran up the middle for the first down at the Gurdon seven-yard line. Bullock then pitched to Flemons, who went around the left side for another TD. The kick by Miller was good to make the score 22-0. Gurdon couldn't make any progress and punted to Prescott, but a fumble on the hand-off of the first play was recovered by the Go-Devils. Being driven back by a fired up defense, Allen tried to pass his way out when Kenneth Pearson was in the right place at the right time for the interception. It was over. Woodley netted 96 yards for the night on 18 carries. Prescott rushed for a total of 148. In the passing game, Bullock only netted seven for a total of 155 yards offensively. On the other side, Gurdon rushed for 58 yards net and Allen passed for 22 more for a total of 80. Charles gained 37 yards during the game to lead the Go-Devils in rushing. Bullock attempted eight passes, completing two. Allen attempted 10, completing three. Prescott had a total of eight first downs to Gurdon's six. The Curley Wolves were penalized four times for 25 yards. Gurdon was penalized six times for 30 yards. Last week, the Bismarck Lions managed a 6-6 tie with Dierks. The Lions have now lost two games and tied one. But the Curley Wolves can't take them lightly. This is a conference game Friday night and must be taken seriously. It can get mighty cold playing football on top of the hill at Bismarck. Next week Prescott will have to travel to Nashville. The Scrappers are still number one in the state in Class AAA, in spite of their loss to Hope last week. The reason is they are the best Class AAA team in the state, according to all the pollsters. Also in the top 10 in the state are Fordyce (2-1) and De Queen (2-1). They are fourth and fifth respectively. At the number two and three spots are two teams from southeast Arkansas: Hamburg and McGehee. Others making up the top ten are Booneville, an old Prescott enemy, Hughes, Clarksville, a new Prescott enemy, Atkins and Gosnell. In other games last week, De Queen beat Murfreesboro, 28-6, Fordyce handled Warren easily, 56 to 7; Foreman stopped Fouke, 14-6; Fountain Lake shut out Glen Ross, 35-0; and Mineral Springs stung the Lewisville Red Devils, 47-0.
