Rose Garden ClubPublished Wednesday, September 23, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Rose Garden Club met in the home of Ann Pounds on September 15 at 11:30 a.m. for a salad luncheon. Betty Turner and Leona Ballard were co-hostesses. Following the delicious luncheon, Billie McCain of Prescott Flowers presented the program, 'Bringing the Outside in.' She made several lovely arrangements using dried native material, such as hydrangea, money plant, gourds and yarrow. She also used dried sunflowers as containers. The group enjoyed her program. The president, Betty Turner, presided over the business meeting. Plans were made for the fall flower show. New yearbooks were distributed. The president stated that the club has received an award from the National Council of State Garden Clubs for an increase in membership. Plans were discussed concerning the 50th anniversary of Rose Garden Club. The club was organized and federated in 1948. Mrs. R.L. Yarbrough was the first president. A coffee will be held on October 15 at the Chamber of Commerce commemorating the 50th anniversary of Rose Garden Club. Allene Spencer and Ida Haynie brought lovely fall arrangements for the group to enjoy. There were 15 members and four guests present. The guests were Penny Richards, Timi Hooker Fox, Huey Shewbirt and Billie McCain. Tri Service Club Tri-Service Club had its first meeting of the new year on September 18. The members enjoyed a luncheon at the home of Linda Vansickle with Dawn McLelland, Ann Wilson, Kathy Cox and Pat Grimes acting as co-hostesses. The president, Babs Barnes, presided over the business meeting. Ree Reynolds conducted a very impressive ceremony as Ann Vermont was initiated into the club. Ree reminded all the members that Tri-Service is based on love love for each other and love for our fellow man. She reminisced about the early days when the club was first organized in 1949. For almost 50 years all the members have tried to make a difference in the community by doing what could be done to serve others, she said. Members are available to assist with community projects if anyone needs the help. Members are selling Sally Foster wrapping paper and gifts until October 1.
