BodcawAline ClausPublished Wednesday, September 23, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune Last week's news: I hope all had a nice Labor Day weekend. Santa and Joyce Clause from Mesquite, Texas, came for a visit with me. On Sunday, the 6th, Harland, Nedra McKelvy and I drove to Star City to help Dale Gentry celebrate 71 years in the ministry. It was a nice service. We had lunch at the church. Claudie and Lavergne White of Rosston also attended. Bro. Mark Faulkner preached for us today as our pastor, Bro. Tom Stevens, had a few days' vacation. The youth of our church had refreshments of cake, nuts, mints and punch to honor grandparents on Sunday night. They seated us then served us. We had a choice of white or chocolate cake. They did a great job. Maudie Miller and Geraldine Campbell spent the weekend with Sherry Kay Lane and family of Greenwood. Chad, Brandi and baby Wesley came to see all the grandparents, uncle and aunts, Deck and Earlene Butler and family. On Monday, Earlene goes back to her doctor. She hopes that a change of cast will help her to get around. Marilyn and Russ Carlton and Ruth Baker attended church at Antioch West in Magnolia, Bro. Sayers' church, where Russ sang. Then in the afternoon he sang at Emmet Baptist Church for their anniversary dedication. Glenn Martin and a friend from Hot Springs made a trip in this area. They visited Maudie Miller for a while. Lynn and Charlotte Almand from Louisiana also visited in this area. They also visited Maudie Miller. This week's news: Russ Carlton sang at Prescott on Saturday night, along with others in Lights for Henry. It is to add more Christmas lights at the courthouse. The project was started a few days ago. Tookie and Martha Mae Grisham from Benton, La., visited Deck and Earlene Butler on Sunday afternoon. Mable Walden of Hope visited Maudie Miller and they visited their brother, Warren Almand of Magnolia on Saturday. He is not feeling very well. Chris, Jennifer and McKenzie Walton had lunch with Deck, Earlene, Phyllis and Todd Butler. Ervin Fairchild of Prescott visited Maudie Miller on Sunday evening. Earlene Butler is improving and hopes to get the cast off her leg in another week. J.D. and Marie Allen had company, some nieces and family of Camden came to take the Allen's out to eat to celebrate J.D.'s birthday. Happy birthday and many more. Ruth Baker and her sister, Lillie Mae Phillips, spent a few days in Dallas with their sister, Ruby, because of the death of her son. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
