Prescott To Get Taste Of Big Apple At Fair

To get to New York City would take a little time but the week of the Nevada County Fair you need only travel to the fairgrounds. The 1998 fair pageants are taking you to the sights and sounds of New York and Broadway.

There are 50 contestants in the pageants ranging from ages 12 months to 17 years of age.

Three pageants were held Tuesday night.

The Baby Mister contestants were Chase Cox, Ron Darius Cone and Cody Kisselburg. Dayne Ghormley will be crowning the winner.

Baby Miss follows with Harli Hicks, Guadulupe Ramos, Rebecca LaBay, Kayla Hendrix, Megan Hughes, Jessica Hopkins, Mikenzie Smillie, Delta Bradford and Mikayla Smillie competing for that title to be given up by Zoie Otwell, 1997 Baby Miss and Lindsey Miller 1997 Infant Miss.

The night's final competition will be Young Miss. Eight young ladies will be competing for the crown given up by Haley Daniel, 1997 Petite Miss and Young Miss 1997 Chayla Colbert. The contestants include Brandi Smillie, Jessica Smillie, Rebekah Martin, Talentia Woodberry, Morgan Daniel, Chelsie Ward, Nicola Hall, Alejandra Ramos and Sydney Ross.

Thursday night competition begins with Tiny Mister contestants Trevor Rucker and Ricardo Roberts competing to be crowned by Jake Gourley, 1997 Little Mister Nevada County.

Tiny Miss contestants then take center stage to see who will be crowned by 1997 Tiny Miss Shelly Glass. Competing for this title will be Josie Beavers, Samantha Brown, Dajha Hardamon, Shabrea Gulley, Samantha Korenek, Katie Sheets, Krystin Hightower and Brooke Adkins.

Brooke Cornelius, 1997 Little Miss, will have the honor of crowning one of the following contestants in Little Miss competition Lauren Webb, Daisha Collier, Kaylee Fincher, Chianti Kight and Cassie Godwin. The crowing of Little Miss Nevada County will climax the night.

The winner of the Little Miss contest will advance to the district competition in Hope on September 29.

Saturday night will begin with a Broadway production number, featuring the Teen Miss and Miss Nevada County contestants.

This number will be followed by Junior Miss contestants taking the stage in hopes of being crowned by the reigning Junior Miss, Jill Hubbard. This year's contestants are Jade Brown, Shay Smillie, Jessica Honea, Laura Heckman, Brittany Pedigo and Meagan Martin.

Teen Miss contestants Tiffany Bryan, Leslie Woods, Amanda Pruitt and Jenny Hurd will compete in sportswear and evening gown. 1997 Teen Miss Laura Beth Williams will anxiously be waiting to crown the new Teen Miss.

Four young ladies will be competing for the title of Miss Nevada County Fair Queen. They are Johnna Bryan, Kristin Teague, Chasity Reeves and Danielle Box.

They will compete in swimsuit, sportswear, and evening gown phases of competition. There will also be an on stage question to be answered during the evening gown phase.

The reigning 1997 Fair Queen, Jessie Ward, will be on hand to crown the new queen.

Several past Miss Nevada County queens will be recognized during the night with a reception for past fair queens and all the newly crowned queens and kings following the night's pageants at the home economics cottage at Prescott High School.

Special entertainment by the reigning queens will be featured each night. This year's pageants promise excitement for everyone, according to Patsy Ledbetter.

The pageant directors encourage everyone to come to the 1998 Nevada County Fair. The fair offers something exciting for people of all ages, they said in a news release.

The pageants begin each night at 7:00.
