College NewsPublished Wednesday, October 7, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneJana Elizabeth Barfield of Prescott is one of a record number of freshman attending the University of Arkansas this year on full academic Chancellor's Scholarships. Barfield's scholarship covers full tuition and fees plus room and board. University of Arkansas Chancellor John A. White has increased support for Chancellor's Scholarships this year in an effort to keep tightly talented Arkansas high school graduates going in-state rather than out-of-state for their college education. The increase in the number of Chancellor's Scholars has been dramatic. The University has enrolled 492 new freshman Chancellor's Scholars this fall, which is a 12-fold increase over the 41 freshman recipients last year. Of the 492 new Chancellor's Scholars, nearly 80 percent are from Arkansas with the remainder from 23 other states. "We are delighted that Jana has chosen to attend the University of Arkansas and look forward to the intellectual contributions she will make to our academic community." White said.
