A representative of the Texarkana Social Security office will be in Prescott in the Social Security room in the courthouse on Thursday, October 22, Tuesday, November 24, and Tuesday, December 22, from 9 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled or blind and who do not own much or have much income. SSI is not just for adults. A 55 Alive driving course will be October 7 and 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church educational building at 201 East Main. Teenagers can join Nevada County Explorer Post 80 to learn about law enforcement, search and rescue, and high adventure activities include dispatching, riding with officers, crowd control, first aid and camping. A gospel meeting by Steve Norris continues through October 7 at the Hope Church of Christ at 7:00 p.m. For transportation call 777-4569. The annual meeting of the members of the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Memorial Fund Association will be held Sunday, October 11, at 2:30 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill community building for the election of directors and such other business as may properly come before the meeting. All members and anyone interested in Pleasant Hill Cemetery are invited to attend. The City Council at Bluff City will meet one week later in October than normal. The meeting will be October 12 at City Hall at 7 p.m. The Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce coffee will be hosted by Rose Garden Club October 15 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The coffee will be held at the chamber office. Everyone is invited to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the club. SWADC Project Literacy of Nevada and Hempstead Counties will sponsor two Laubach workshops during the month of October. Both will be held at the Split Rail facility. The first will be October 23 and 24. The second will be October 30 and 31. Both will be from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. The free workshops will certify those attending the sessions in the Laubach method of tutoring. Call 887-5536 or 777-8892 to enroll for the opportunity to help someone learn how to read. The Artesian Arts League will be holding auditions for an upcoming Christmas play entitled, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson. Auditions will be held Saturday, October 10, in the Prescott City Hall auditorium. These auditions are open for all interested persons. There will be positions for children ages 4-12 and adults. Hillcrest Care and Rehab will be hosting the seventh district AHCA Nursing Home Queens Pageant October 15 at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church's gym. This promises to be a very exciting event, as usual. Everyone is asked to support of the local residents. Southwest Arkansas Development Council announces that the application period for summer assistance and CIP assistance ended September 30. A benefit program for Evelyn Wilson will be Saturday night, October 10, at 7:00 at Munn's Chapel Baptist Church. The benefit program is due to expensive medical bills. White Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, established in 1848 in the De Ann community, will celebrate its 150th homecoming Sunday, October 11. Services begin at 10:30 a.m. Sermons will be brought by former pastors, Dennis Wilson and Kem Reader. There will be singing and potluck. Everyone is invited. Revival services will begin Wednesday, October 7, at New Beginning Full Gospel Baptist Church, located at 113 East Elm Street in downtown Prescott The services will be conducted by Elder Hosea Donnell Malone, pastor of the Walkers Temple Church of God in Christ in Fordyce. Services will begin at 7:30 p.m. The 1942 graduates of Prescott High School are having a reunion at the First Baptist church in Prescott October 17.
