Classy Moments

Published Wednesday, October 14, 1998 in the Gurdon Times

Can you believe that Friday, October 16, will bring to an end the first nine weeks of the school year? That's right. It does seem impossible in so many ways, but the old saying 'Time flies when you are having fun' must be true.

We are still so excited about our new building. There are a few that are still learning that we expect their help in taking "real good care" of our school, while others started the first day to show respect and pride in their new home.

Although it is stated in the handbook, which each student has, that candy and gum are not allowed on the campus, we have some that are trying not to get caught. We ask them to please follow the rules or visit Mrs. Bullard's or Mrs. Blanton's 7:45 a.m. D-Hall. Again, let me say that it is only a few that we are still working on.

Mrs. Debbie White, art teacher, has been kept busy, not only in her art classes, but extra work that Mrs. Clingan has asked her to do. When it comes to art, we all know that Mrs. Clingan cannot even draw pencil people, so she goes to the best source, Mrs. White.

The picture that Mrs. White has drawn of the Cabe Middle School will be displayed in the entrance of the school, along with the one she has drawn of the old middle school, which was the Bell School. These will show where we were and where we are now. Thinking that the extra work might be over? Wait. There's more. The picture that Mrs. McBride had provided for the old building needed a little touch up, so off to the art room Mrs. Clingan did go! Sure enough Mrs. White 'fixed' it.

That's not all. Now a very special mural for the entrance is being prepared by the one and only art teacher. Debbie, maybe you will get another '200 grand' for the work that you do for us. You are certainly very patient with all that has been asked of you and we do thank you very much.

Thursday was another day of a fun filled pep rally. It is surprising that you cannot hear those cheers and band where you are, as it seems as though the gym is rocking with all of the yelling that goes on. But understand now, the yelling is showing the spirit for our team. Mrs. Green has those cheerleaders ready for the 'show' and Mr. Wimberly certainly has the band ready. We love it!

A very special group attends most of our pep rallies, and they are parents. We really appreciate you taking the time to come and enjoy those special occasions with us and always remember that you are most welcome to come to all of our activities.

Several of our students have been to the fairs showing their animals. We know it takes a lot of work and time to get the animals ready for show, and they have to keep up their school work also. Just want you to know that we are proud of you.

Wednesday, October 14, is the big day for Cabe Middle School, as we will be observing the dedication of the school. Members of the Cabe Foundation will be attending and you are most definitely invited. The program will be conducted in the Gurdon High School gym at 11:00 a.m., so please make plans to attend.

I must complement the cooks we have that prepare the wonderful, delicious lunches for our teachers and students. We just take so much for granted. Ladies, we do thank you for the special care you give in making the lunch so good, even if we fail to tell you at the proper time. We say, thank you!

Mrs. Hitt is planning to take her choir to Camden October 17 for regionals. That lady is at it again, making students aware of talent that has been hidden for some time. Say, did you see who was singing at the pep rally with the 'mike' in her hand. Could be a new member of the choir, maybe.

Parent-teacher conferences will be held October 22. Start making your plans to attend, as we look forward to meeting with you and discussing the person who makes the reason for us being there.

Please remember the 'Save the Picture Fund' at First State Bank and make a donation to help preserve those former graduate pictures from 1929-1994.

Thank you for caring about us and letting us know that you enjoy reading about us, with special thanks to Juanita, Virginia, Mary Virginia, Mrs. Middleton, Jonnye and you. Keep informed as we continue to make those Classy Moments at Cabe Middle School.
