Red Springs EHCPublished Wednesday, October 21, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesPhoto memories for future generations was the program given by Elizabeth Wilson at the October 8 Red Springs Extension Homemakers meeting. To preserve your pictures, purchase an acid free album and project supplies. High acid paper gives off peroxide that causes staining in the black and white and color prints. Also the plastic magnetic photo covering gives off gases that attack photographic images. Safer plastics are polyester (Mylar), polyethylene, polypropylene, triacetate and tyvek. Using these plastics with acid free papers is the best way to preserve your photos. Cropping pictures does away with too much sky, a thumb or the camera straps that got in the way. Be careful not to cut away things that may define an era such as a car, furniture or toys. Document your pictures not only with name, date and event, but write in feelings, humorous captions, appropriate quotes and family stories. How can future generations know if we don't put it in writing? Albums should not be stacked, but kept in upright positions with, if possible, 70x temperature and less humidity. Jean Toland presided over the meeting with 19 members and Dr. Barbara Holt present. Hostess Tootsie Dempsey gave the devotional, 'Our Own Backyard, a Sanctuary to Find the Lord' and a prayer by Dianna Bloomfield. Wonderful Words of Life and It Is No Secret were led by Mary McBride. October 22 is the fall council meeting in Arkadelphia at the First Methodist Church. Much entertainment will be provided and Michelle Swafford of Fashion Corner will supply fashions for fall and winter to be modeled by Extension Homemaker members. Martha Bearden made 'Learning Dolls' to be given to the Children's Hospital along with other dolls from the county. The club will help work with the county on needs and improvements of the Coursage House. The door prize was won by Lynda Dickerson, and the meeting adjourned with Helen Toland blessing the food and the Cherish Yourself reading. Betty Cook will host the November 12 meeting.
