County Teachers In Who's Who

Published Wednesday, October 28, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune

A select group of America's teachers are being honored by their toughest critics their former students, in the fifth edition of Who's Who Among America's Teachers, 1998.

Local educators honored include Suzanne Guthrie of Prescott Elementary School and June Johnson, Jonathan Kelly, Doyle Malcom, Sherri Smith and Sheila Virden of Prescott High School.

Nevada educators honored include Sandra Browning, Naomi Butler, James Hastings, Janice Hastings, Linda Terry, Kris Tippitt and James Young.

Frank Henson of Emmet High School was also included.

All of the approximately 130,000 teachers being honored were selected by their former students who themselves are currently listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students, or The National Dean's List.

"In this publication we clearly have the best teachers in America selected by the best students," Paul Krouse, publisher, said.

The students were requested to nominate teachers who "made a difference in their lives" by helping shape their values, inspiring interest in a particular subject and/or challenging them to strive for excellence.

Many of the students commented about the enthusiasm and knowledge their teachers demonstrated in the classroom, and many praised their teachers for their ability to relate to youngsters on a personal as well as professional level.
