Nedra Brint McKelvy

Mrs. Nedra Brint Kent McKelvy, 87, of Hope died Thursday, September 9, 1999, in an automobile accident in Miller County.

Mrs. McKelvy was born April 26, 1912, in Spring Hill to Oscar and Nellie Martin Brint. She was a nurse and worked for J.C. Penney. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church. Mrs. McKelvy taught Sunday school for 45 years. She was a former PTA president, president of Hempstead County Home Demonstration Clubs, 1961 Hempstead County Egg Queen, 4-H Club leader, chapter and state president of Colonial Dames Seventeenth Century, Business and Professional Women member, 1981 Merit Mother of the Year, Farm Bureau District Woman, district president of the Daughters of the American Revolution, president of Garden Clubs Council, AARP member and life member of Hempstead County Historical Society. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lester Kent; one son, Sonny Kent and one daughter, Kay Thornton.

Survivors include one daughter, Helen Rateliff of Hope; two brothers, Fort Brint of Waskom, Texas, and Clyde May of Hope; two sisters, Beatrice Johnson of Rogers and Ina Krieger of Texarkana; six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday, September 12, at Unity Baptist Church in Hope with Rev. I.V. Hight and Rev. Kenneth Bobo officiating. Burial was in Macedonia Cemetery in Patmos under the direction of Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home of Hope.
