HeartWatch Program Available

The Framingham Study is celebrating its 50th year in the research of heart disease. 5,000 people in Framingham, Mass., having participated in the study and are proud of their contribution to medical science.

What medical science has learned from this study now determines medical approaches today for reducing the risk factors for heart disease. From this study it was determined that smoking, high blood pressure, and obesity are dangerous risk factors for heart disease.

Helping the people of Nevada, Hempstead and Lafayette counties to benefit from the Framingham study through clinic services, health education and outreach services is the focus of HeartWatch, a federally funded, three-year project sponsored by Cabun Rural Health Services, AHEC-Southwest and Region V of the Arkansas Department of Health.

Project director Rebecca Hyatt states that over 300 persons have enrolled in HeartWatch in the first year of the project.

There is no charge for the health education services, transportation, and self-help groups. Physicians in the area are invited to refer their patients to HeartWatch for health education services.
