One Arrested In StabbingBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, November 4, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune A stabbing victim remains hospitalized from wounds received during the weekend. According to Wayne Kisselburg, criminal investigator for the Prescott Police Department and Nevada County Sheriff's Office, James Cole, 39, was allegedly stabbed several times by Thomas Langston, 42, Saturday, Oct. 24. The stabbing occurred around 7:45 p.m. at 692 W. Bryant Street in Prescott. According to witnesses, Kisselburg said, Langston pushed Cole, and claimed Cole was the reason another person had been cut earlier in the day. Langston then reportedly pulled his knife and began stabbing Cole in the back. Langston broke the blade of his knife during the attack. He later turned himself in at the NCSO around 9 p.m. Cole was taken to Medical Park Hospital in Hope with three or four stab wounds. Cole suffered a punctured lung from the assault. Langston is expected to be charged with second degree battery. ROBBER CAUGHT A convenience store thief was nabbed Tuesday, Oct. 20, after successfully robbing two stores. According to Kisselburg, Kortney Samuels, 20, of Prescott, began his short-lived spree around 10:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15. Allegedly, Samuels went to the Phillips 66 truck stop on Highway 19, got a bag of chips, took it to the counter and when the clerk opened the register he reached in, grabbed some cash and fled. He reportedly took about $100 from Phillips 66. Samuels got an early start Tuesday morning as he hit the Shell Superstop at about 4:20 a.m., following the same method. He took about $100 from this convenience store as well. However, his luck ran out when he went to the Road Mart on Highway 19 and tried this gambit for a third time. The clerk in this case was aware of Samuels's tactics and when he brought the chips to the register, the clerk backed away and called the police. Samuels fled the scene but was later arrested. He has been charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of misdemeanor theft. The robbery charges are class B felonies. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
