Motorists in Nevada County should realize the Nevada County Sheriff's Office is serious when it comes to passing stopped school buses.

Recently, a Camden log truck driver found out how serious the NCSO is about it. Finis Nations, 26, passed a Nevada School District bus on the right recently, according to Wayne Kisselburg, criminal investigator for the NCSO and Prescott Police Department, narrowly missing a child getting on the bus.

Kisselburg said the bus was stopped near the Reader cutoff with its lights flashing. It was still stopped when Nations drove his loaded rig around it on the right.

At the time, a child was getting on and had just gotten on the first step of the bus when Nations passed illegally.

A witness to the act chased Nations to Gurdon and got his license number. This was then turned over to the NCSO and Nations was cited for reckless driving and passing a stopped school bus.

Kisselburg said the NCSO, Arkansas State Police and Arkansas Highway Police will not tolerate stopped buses being passed, and those who do will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

BURGLAR BUSTED

Officers with the NCSO arrested a 44-year-old Bluff City man, charging him with residential burglary, theft of property, criminal trespass and terroristic threatening in the first degree.

According to Kisselburg, Roy Rivers had gone to a Bluff City residence Thursday, Oct. 29, and tried to break into a pickup. The owner saw the act and confronted Rivers, telling him to leave and not come back.

Rivers did leave, and went to a nearby home where he tried to break in. Again, he was caught in the act.

He then returned to the first residence for a second round, but was arrested. Rivers threatened the lives of the officers and their families, leading to the charge of terroristic threatening in the first degree.

MAN ARRESTED

Tony Page, 22, of Prescott, was arrested Monday, Nov. 22, on charges of felony theft of property and second degree forgery.

According to NCSO reports, Page took $200 in cash from his grandmother's residence, along with a rifle and her checkbook. He wrote checks locally, though he wasn't on the account.

At the time of the incident, Page was living with his grandmother.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

Zach Lessie, 20, of Prescott, was arrested Saturday, Oct. 31, and charged with residential burglary and theft of property.

According to reports, Lessie allegedly broke into a house on Walnut Street in Prescott, taking $150 in cash.

His wallet was later found at the scene, and when he went to the NCSO to retrieve it, Lessie was arrested.

Kisselburg said this is Lessie's second felony arrest for the same offense.
