Funding is being sought to help the proposed Prescott Rural Water Project.

The Partnership, a combine of the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce and the Prescott-Nevada County Economic Development Office, turned in an application for funds to the Economic Development of Arkansas Fund Commission Friday, Oct. 30.

This is for additional funding to help enhance the overall project. The rural water project has already been approved by the Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC) and will start in the year 2000 or 2001, according to Walt Denton, executive director of the EDO.

Along with the rural water project, there are other ventures in the works. The city is making headway with the clearing of land for the industrial park.

According to Denton, the park is in the TEA-21 phase of development. This, he said, involves the use of federal grant money to develop interstate access to the customers in the park as well as beautifying the area.

Once this phase is done, he said, the city will move ahead with its plans to develop and build a spec building to show prospects.

Ground has been broken for the Love's Country Store site off Exit 46. The property is in the process of being cleared of debris so construction can begin. Denton said with luck construction could start in early December.

A sign is up off Exit 44 proclaiming the coming of another Rip Griffin Truck and Travel Center.

According to Denton, the Partnership has been in contact with a representative of Griffin's. Hopes are there will be movement on the project soon.
