GPS Holds Scholastic Book Fair

Published Wednesday, November 11, 1998 in the Gurdon Times

Gurdon Primary School recently hosted a Scholastic Book Fair. Students and parents visited, looked at books and made purchases during the five-day fair.

According to Mrs. Sherry Karr, library media specialist for GPS, a special time called parents' night, which coincided with the parent-teacher conference hours, was a huge success.

Parents want the opportunity to assist their children in making book purchases and this was a time to see many of the outstanding children's books that are available today.

Mrs. Karr also stated that she was very pleased with the number of parents who assisted her with running the book fair during regular school hours. Whitney Hogue and Cassie Lynn assisted as helpers for the parents' night session.

Cody Caldwell, a fourth grader and the son of Bryan and Debbie Caldwell, won the $50 savings bond in a special drawing held at the close of the parents' night session. The savings bond was donated by First State Bank of Gurdon.

Daily drawings were held for students who visited the book fair and prizes were furnished by Piggly Wiggly's Pizza Pro and Take One Video Rentals, Sonic Drive-In and Red-E-Mart.

All proceeds from the book fair sales will be used to assist in reading programs at the GPS library.
