Classy Moments

Published Wednesday, November 11, 1998 in the Gurdon Times

Several of our students have shared their experiences of enjoyment during the Forest Festival. The rides were a big hit, although some said they got sick on a particular ride not seriously, as they rode it again. Some had stuffed toys and other items they had purchased. From all of the talk, I would say that they are looking forward to next year's Forest Festival already.

Friday of course was homecoming for GHS. Mrs. Roe had the idea of the exhibit for the parade for Cabe Middle School. As the theme was 'Sittin' On Top of the World,' CMS had the world resting on an Egyptian sleigh being carried by four lions; the world had a pitchfork for the axis and on top of the world was a Go-Devil football helmet with a crown on it. Several teachers worked hard on the exhibit and big thanks to each of them for a job well done.

Students who had not been assigned D-hall for the first nine weeks were rewarded with free time Friday. They enjoyed the opportunity to go outside to have a Coke and a fun time together. The students who had served D-hall were in their regular classes.

The jewelry salesman was with us last week, as he explained his program for the selling of jewelry. We have been involved in this fund- raiser for several years and the profit goes to buy various things for the students to enjoy.

Parents, just a reminder that school will dismiss at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17, for teachers in-service.

Appreciation is certainly expressed to Mr. Fallia for all he has done and is still doing to get the teachers' computers working as they should. We may not tell him so, but we do appreciate his work.

The dirt is really being moved making ready for the new football field, which will be south of our building, or should we say directly in front of CMS.

The ground work is being made ready for the physical education building and the two additional classrooms, which will be located east of CMS. We are excited about both additions and we certain know two teachers who are anxious to have their own classrooms, Mrs. Downey and Mrs. Hitt.

The new location of the football field and field house will really help in having students in class on time, as well as not having to bus them back and forth for practice at the present location.

The community has so much to be proud of in the beautiful school facilities for the young people.

Hopefully, soon the primary school will be able to have the needed repairs and updates it needs, but realizing that most of that can only take place during the summer months when the students are not present.

If you have not had a tour of CMS, give us a call and arrange a time to come to see for yourself why we are so proud of our building and perhaps better understand why we enjoy making those Classy Moments at CMS.
