Delbert Houston SmithPublished Wednesday, November 18, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesDelbert Houston Smith, 75, of Ozark died Sunday, November 15, 1998. Mr. Smith was born February 23, 1923, to Charlie and Spicy Smith in Curtis. He surrendered to preach the gospel in 1961 and pastored numerous Missionary Baptist Churches in the Arkansas and Oklahoma area. He was a member of Main Street Missionary Baptist Church in Mulberry and a longtime member of the Union of Operating Engineers. He was preceded in death by two children, Debbye Kaye Smith and Houston Junior 'Buddy' Smith, and four brothers, Eldred Smith, Johnny K. Smith, Leroy Smith and William Smith. Survivors include his wife, Rose Mary Logan Smith, to whom he was married 51 years; six children, Elizabeth Jane Mosby of Spiro, Okla., Mary Lynda Trujillo of North Little Rock, Terri Lynn Hawkins of Bryant, Shari Annette Cooper of Van Buren, Kimberly Ruth Pevehouse of Fort Smith and Robyn Renee Smither of Rudy; two sisters, Gertrude Cooper of Gurdon and Alyne Gilbert of Fort Smith; two brothers, Watson Smith of Gurdon and Charles Smith of Ozark; 14 grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Funeral services are to be today, Wednesday, November 18, at 2 p.m. at Shaffer Funeral Home in Ozark. Pallbearers will be Russell Hawkins, Larry Smither, Mark Owens, Mike Cooper, Ted Trujillo, Scott Mosby and Jonathon Miller.
