A representative of the Texarkana Social Security office will be in Prescott in the Social Security room in the courthouse on Thursday, October 22, Tuesday, November 24, and Tuesday, December 22, from 9 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled or blind and who do not own much or have much income. SSI is not just for adults. Monthly checks can be paid to disabled and blind children. To find out if you are eligible, call 1- 800-772-1213. Mom's In Touch Pray group meets every Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the First Baptist Church. Southwest Arkansas Planning and Development District will hold a meeting of the board of directors Wednesday, November 11, at the Western Sizzlin Restaurant in Hope. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. First Baptist Church of Prescott will host a 'second blessing,' clothes closet Saturday, November 14, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. It will be held in the gymnasium of the church. All types of clothes will be available from infants through adults. There is no charge for the clothes or admission. The Nevada County Unit of The American Cancer Society will have the first meeting of The Nevada County Cancer Support Group on Thursday, November 12, at 7 p.m. at the St. Michael community room in Prescott on Highway 67 North. This will be an organizational type meeting to consider the exact needs to set up a program text that will meet these needs. The previous meeting was postponed due to a basketball game. Christmas and Candlelight in Old Washington will be Saturday, December 5, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Southwest Arkansas Regional Archives and the Old Washington Historic State Park and volunteers will begin making the decorations the week of November 30. The decorations will be made of cedar, pine, holly and berries. The park is beautiful with decorations and 3,000 luminaries lining the walkways from historic house to house. Tickets may be purchased by contacting the archives. Prescott Middle School PTA will meet Thursday, November 12, at 5 p.m. in the PMS cafetorium. Anyone interested in improving conditions at Prescott Middle School is encouraged to attend. Salem Baptist Church near Prescott will be in revival November 12,13 and14 beginning at 7:00 each evening. Matt Johnson will be the evangelist. Everyone is invited to attend. Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Prescott will begin having evening services every fourth Sunday at 6:00 Sunday, November 22. The message will be by the host pastor, Rev. Joe Battle. Are you looking for a new way to organize those boxes full of mementoes stacked in the closet, under the bed and in the way? Here is the workshop for you. The Artesian Arts League will be sponsoring a scrap booking workshop to be held Saturday, November 14, at City Hall from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Cost for this fun-filled workshop will be $5 for Artesian Arts League members and $7.50 for non-members. The limit is 15. For more information, call Barbara Lowdermilk after 5 p.m. at 887-2305. Trash pick-up by the county will be done today (Wednesday), even though it is Veteran's Day. However, next week the county will take off on Monday, which means that trash pick-up next week will be one day late. County employees will be off Thursday and Friday, November 26 and 27 for Thanksgiving. Therefore, trash pick-up that week will be normal for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, but the county will make the Thursday run on Wednesday as well. Jeff and Amanda Collier of Prescott are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Kori Ashton, born Thursday, November 5, 1998, at 12:35 at Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia. Kori weighed 5 pounds and 13 + ounces and was 18 inches long. Maternal grandparent is Linda Weathersby of Prescott. Paternal grandparents are Wyn Collier of Oklahoma and Dana Stout of Prescott. A public meeting will be held Thursday, November 12, at 7 p.m. at the Nevada County Courthouse. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the Prescott rural water project. Everyone is invited to attend. A chamber coffee will be hosted by the Future Teachers of America and the Prescott District Education Association Thursday, November 19, from 7:00 to 9 a.m. in the PHS Home Economics building. They will be celebrating American Education Week 'Investing In Our Future.' Everyone is invited to come out and have breakfast with these groups. The Nevada School District will have its regular board meeting in the school library at 7 p.m. Thursday, November 19.
