Website Offers Tips On Woody PlantsLAMAR JAMES EXTENSION COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST, UA DIVISION OF AGRICULTUREPublished Wednesday, September 29, 1999 in the Gurdon Times If you've got a hankering to add some woody plants to your landscape, where can you go to find information about those plants? One of the University of Arkansas' newest Websites may be the ticket for you, according to Stephen Myers, head of the Cooperative Extension Service's horticulture section. "It should be a great asset to the academic community and the public," says Myers. Jon T. Lindstrom, assistant professor of horticulture, created the site to help students in his woody landscape plants class, but he said the public is welcome to use the information and photographs for their personal use. "Students trying to learn about woody plants can go to the site and see the same slides and review the same information they received in class," says Lindstrom. "It reinforces what they received in class." He says nurserymen and others in the general public may also find the site useful. Each plant on the site has two pages of background on growth habits, use in landscapes, maintenance problems, where the plant is found and information about flowering, foliage and fruiting. The visitor can click on a thumbnail photograph to see a larger version of the plant. "These are plants you'd generally find in Arkansas and more specifically in the Fayetteville area," Lindstrom says. He says that as time goes by, he'll add more images and information about woody plants found in Arkansas. Lindstrom says he shot 99 percent of the slides and digital images.
